They make expanding copper bullets designed for subsonic use that would outperform any. With a bullet running subsonic, you'll need an expanding bullet to do any damage at all. 223 / 5.56 are such that if you're going slow enough to be sub-sonic, you may as well just load up your Bic pen with spit balls.
